About

Hi there!
Welcome to Nurture
Melissa is a proficient NESA accredited teacher with over 15 years in education. She has worked recently as a primary school principal, coordinator and teacher.

Melissa has lived experience (both professionally and personally) of neurodiversity and strongly believes that providing support in the early years of a child's life will have lasting, positive impacts.

She has extensive experience and evidenced based knowledge of neuroaffirming practices to support the development of children using a strengths based approach.
Melissa can provide support to children transitioning to school, that builds individual children's skills and capacity. This can be achieved through visits to early childhood settings and schools.
As an experienced educator, Melissa understands children's complex behaviours and supports children with a compassionate approach, that focuses on connection and understanding the child's brain-body needs. Behaviour is like an iceberg - what we can see are the behaviours of the child but it is up to us to be ‘detectives’ to work out what we cannot see - the internal emotional states, neurodivergent behaviour or stress/trauma responses. Until we find out the “why” and support change, the behaviours of a child are not going to change. Melissa is here to help.

Relationships with families is Melissa's other key value - providing support and guidance to parents and carers, through the journey of helping their child to increase their confidence and capacity to manage and respond to their child's needs.
